Introduction
Ranau is a famous tourist district in the country and internationally. Among the interesting tourist spots in this area are the Poring Hot Spring , Mount Kinabalu National Park , Sabah Tea Farm, Kundasang Town which is famous for its vegetable stalls, the former Mamut copper mine, the location of the Second World War prison , the Liwagu River, monthly guests ( daily market once in a month) and many more.
Origins of Ranau
Ranau comes from the word Ranahon which means paddy field area. Usually the Dusun community in Ranau district cultivate huma padi or hill paddy considering the shape of the land here which is hilly. But for the people in the Ranau Valley , they cultivate paddy fields or Ranahon in the local language .
Ranahon 's short name is Ranau . Coincidentally, this area has developed and become the administrative center of the district and therefore the word Ranau has been used as the official name of this district.
